The 6th seeded Stars...

Tuesday, February 17th- The Ponds of Brookfield WI.

The 6th seeded Stars opened the 1st round of the State playoffs at home against the Beaver Dam Golden Beavers Tuesday evening. In the first period, Brookfield’s Ron Butzen (Capt. J. Hill/Schindler) opened the scoring at 9:44 on the power play and minute later, Eric Sinson (Rymaszewski, goalie N. Davis) broke in alone and slid the puck through the five hole to stretch the lead 2 – 0 to close out the first period scoring. Fifty five seconds into the second period, Gabe Lehnerer (Hawthorne/Keays) banged home a rebound to take a 3 – 0 Stars lead. Beaver Dam played a tight second period allowing only the single goal and the second period closed out with a 3 – 0 Stars lead. The Stars opened things up a bit in the third period with three goals, the first: 53 seconds in as Noah Mikelonis (Kujawa/Sinson) found the back of the net. Mike Hawthorne then went coast to coast unassisted less than a minute later, and finally, Patrick McKnight (Keays/Hawthorne) closed out the scoring at 3:02 of the third period to take a 6 – 0 lead to the final buzzer. Nick Davis stopped 9 shots in the game.

Regular Season Closeout

Saturday, February 14th...

Saturday, February 14th- The Ponds of Brookfield WI.

The Madison Memorial Spartans rolled into town Saturday night in the final regular season game for the Stars. The Spartans opened the scoring 51 seconds in and picked up another goal about three minutes later to take a quick 2 – 0 lead. Riley Keays (Z. Davis) opened the Star’s scoring at 15:53 to close the gap 2 – 1. Before the period ended, the Spartans picked up one more goal closing out the first period leading 3 – 1. Eleven minutes into the second period, Riley Keays (Oelsen, McKnight) notched his second goal of the night to once again close the gap to 1 goal, making it 3 -2. The Spartans got that goal back at 15:31 to close out period number two with a 4 – 2 lead. The third period was all Spartans as they tallied 3 more goals and outshot the Stars 50-17 to seal a 7 – 2 victory.

The Stars face Beaver Dam on Tuesday, February 17th at the Ponds in the opening round of the State High School Playoffs.
