A Special Night...

Friday, February 6th- The Ponds of Brookfield WI.

For Seniors Justin Hill, Mike Hawthorne, John Rymaszewski, Riley Keays, and Brandon Sherman, the road to Senior Night has not been without its challenges. Through an immense amount of dedication that involved Zero Dark Thirty rises, pushing through injuries - some major, some nagging, tolerating under classmen and then stepping up to mentor them, and taking critical shifts in games when leadership was needed most, a victory Friday night would be a welcomed reward.  So it was fitting that on this night, in a key divisional game, against a very strong KKMO team, the seniors were instrumental in what was perhaps the best Stars performance of the season. The Stars came out strong, attacking the net and at 11:10 of the first period, Ron Butzen skated up the left wing and walked in to open the scoring. A little over a minute later, KMMO tied it at 1 goal apiece but then Senior Riley Keays got busy. Keays scored the next two goals 17 seconds apart (assisted by McKnight and Weiner respectively) then finished off his natural hatrick with 2:30 left in the period. The scoring for the period ended there with a 4 – 1 Stars lead. In the second period, KMMO returned the favor swarming the Stars as they found the back of the net four times in the period. Patrick McKnight’s (Keays) second period goal at 4:37 kept the Star’s heads above water as the period ended in a tie 5 – 5. The Stars retook the lead at 10:58 of the third period as Ron Butzen scored his second goal of the game to make it 6 – 5.  The game remained there until with two minutes left, as KMMO had their goalie pulled, Senior John Rymaszewski (McKnight)  returning from a serious wrist injury, slid home the open netter securing the victory for the Stars 7 – 5 on this special night

Saturday, February 7th- Ozaukee Ice Arena

On Saturday, the Stars slipped up to Ozaukee County to face the Cedarburg Bulldogs as the regular season begins to wind down. A strong Bulldog team notched the only goal in the first frame closing out the first period of play with a 1 – 0 lead. Moving into the second period, the Bulldogs tallied twice again, extending their lead 3 – 0. The Stars were unable to mount any sustained offense and closed out with a weekend split, losing to the Bulldogs 3 – 0.
