Rice Lake, WI...

Weekend, January 30th/31st - Rice Lake, Wi

The Stars traveled north for weekend play to face the Rice Lake Warriors on Friday night and the Northwest Icemen on Saturday. The Warriors opened the scoring with two quick goals in the first period of Friday night's contest and it wasn't until 16:28 of the final period when Brady Kujawa scored for the Stars. The Stars tried adding an extra attacker in the final seconds but could not connect to take the game into overtime. Final score, Rice Lake 2 The Stars 1.

On Saturday the Stars faced the Northwest Icemen and wasted little time getting on the board as Riley Keays (Mikelonis) scored :49 seconds into the contest. Later, the Icemen tied it at one goal apiece but at 13:53, Noah Mikelonis (Oelson) buried a rebound to take back the lead 2 - 1. In the second period, Keays and Mikelonis decided to repeat their first period performance and scored again :49 seconds into the period and stretch the lead to 3 - 1. The Icemen then pulled to within a goal but at 6:41, Ron Butzen took a pass from Adam Weiner, broke in alone and roofed a backhander to give the Stars their two goal lead back 4 - 2. The feisty Icemen notched the next two goals to close out the second period deadlocked 4 - 4. In the final period, Riley Keays decided to take his time opening the period's scoring waiting a whole 1:22 before completing the hatrick unassisted. Finally at 15:11, Brady Kujawa (McKnight) finished off his fine game giving the Stars their second two goal lead closing out the game's scoring and giving the Stars a 6 - 4 victory. Nick Davis had a strong weekend and stopped 25 of 29 shots in the game.
