Eagles and Edge remain tied 2-2 after overtime

Senior night for the Northland Pines girls hockey team was also rivalry night, with the Northern Edge Co-op coming to the Dome to close out the regular season. Over the weekend the playoff seeding was announced, with Northland Pines taking the 3rd seed and Northern Edge coming in just ahead of them with the 2nd seed.

 

Northland Pines was first on the board at the 7:09 mark with a goal by Emily Saltenberger. Kali Ebert shot from the blue line towards Shea Petersen, allowing Saltenberger to jab at the puck a few times before finally getting the puck into the back of the net.

 

The Eagles led 1-0 going into the second period but Lindsey Steger from Northern Edge tied up the game 1-1 with ten minutes left in the first period. Kali Ebert took back the lead for the Eagles four minutes later by putting the puck past Petersen’s right shoulder. Allyson Sima and Emily Saltenberger picked up assists on the goal.

 

After penalties against Gabrielle Millot and Kali Ebert, Katie Detert tied up the game for the Northern Edge with a goal against Jenna Paez. Mikala Rubo and Detert both made shots against the respective goalies, but both were denied of goals.


Neither team could score in the remaining time, sending the game into overtime. Both teams had numerous shots on goal but Jenna Paez and Shea Petersen were brick walls in the net, forcing the game to end in a 2-2 tie. Northern Edge lead the shots 28-21 overall. Pines will host the Marshfield Co-op February 20th for a regional playoff game.
