Middleton Knocks Off Brookfield Stars

Middleton was hosting Brookfield in fifth Super Noah game and opened the game with a ceremonial face-off dropped by the two honorary players. The honorary players were teammates that were diagnosed with leukemia when playing hockey. They have been cancer free now for 3 1/2 years, but the local community continues to raise funds for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Foundation and children’s cancer research. This year's game raised over $8, 000.

While the fundraiser was a major part of the evening, there was a WIAA high school hockey game to be played. Brookfield's Pierce Mayer scored quickly, when he picked up a loose puck in the Stars' offensive zone. Mayer spun and fired in one motion to beat the Cardinals' goaltender Ian Eberle 29 seconds into the game putting the Stars up 1-0. The game continued on with both teams moving the puck. Brookfield was accessed a penalty for tripping at 11:07 to put Middleton on the power play. Charlie Jambor tied the game for Middleton with power play goal assisted by Eli Covey and Cade Semrad at 11:19. The period came to an end with the game tied at 1.

Middleton's Alexander Moreau gave the Cardinals the lead at 1:33 of the second with Gabe Passini and Eli Covey assisting. The Stars went on the power play with 6:20 on the clock, when Middleton picked up a tripping penalty. The Cardinals penalty kill unit was up to the task and the second period ended with Middleton leading 2-1.

The third period got underway and was pretty mundane until the 9:33 mark. Coincidental minors were called at that point Brookfield was called for Unsportsmanlike Conduct and Middleton picked up a hooking penalty. A face-off was taking place in Middleton's defensive zone and Brookfield called a timeout with 3:16 on the clock. The Stars took the opportunity to pull their goalie and get an extra attacker on the ice. Ten seconds later Wyatt Ehrhardt fired the puck for an empty net goal putting the Cardinals up 3-1. Brookfield's goaltender went back into the game. Middleton was called for interference at 15:21 and Brookfield pulled their goaltender again. Once again, Middleton was able to score with a long shot on the empty net at 15:37 of the third. This time it was Charlie Jambor with the goal and Middleton lead went to 3. Coincidental minors were accessed for unsportsmanlike conduct at 15:59. Middleton picked up another penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct at 16:40. Brookfield closed out the scoring with a power play goal by Colin Masek with Adam Sexton and Josh Wasielewski assisting at 16:48. Middleton won 4-2.
