Brookfield Glacier Tame the Coulee Region Cyclones

Brookfield Hustles Way to Win

The final Friday of the 2023-24 WIAA girl's hockey regular season is in the books. Brookfield took the bus trip to West Salem to play Coulee Region. It was senior night and the Cyclones paid tribute to their lone senior, Celia Mitchell.

The first period found Brookfield being accessed a hooking penalty at 3:53. The Cyclones were able to capitalize on the power play opportunity, when Raegan Domack scored with an assist from Brooke Borkenhagen at 5:29. Brookfield went on the power play at 15:45 of the period as Coulee Region was called for hooking. This turned to a 5-on-3 power play as the Cyclones picked up another hooking penalty with 31 seconds remaining in the period. The Cyclones led 1-0 at the end of one.

The Cyclones were able to kill off the remainder of the penalties to start the second period. The Glacier tied the game at 2:09 with an even strength goal by Madeline MacLeod assisted by Emma Lawrence and Macy Blooming. Coulee Region picked up their third penalty of the game at 5:02 of the second. This time for high-sticking and the Glacier capitalized with a power play goal by Payton Dykstra assisted by Madeling MacLeod and Ella Vranak at 5:46. Brookfield led 2-1 at the end of two.

The third period spent most of the period with the puck moving up and down the ice. Brookfield went to the sin bin at 12:30 for roughing, but were up to the task of killing the penalty off. Brookfield's Emma Lawrence bumped the lead to 3-1 at 14:52 with an assist from Deah Toska. A delayed penalty was accessed to the Cyclones for roughing at the same time, but no time served due to the goal. Coulee Region was called for body checking at 16:21. Twenty seconds later, Payton Dykstra scored a power play goal with Macy Blooming assisting to give the Glacier a 4-1 win,
