White holds off Cards with 21 save shutout

On Thursday night in Verona Edgewood would take on Middleton in a o nonconference match up. Middleton would come into the game after a 7-2 win over Beloit. Edgewood would come into this game undefeated after they beat Mcfarland 2-0.

Rowen White would start in net for Edgewood and Ian Eberle for Middleton. Middleton had the first decent chance with a blocked shot leading to a 2 on 1 but Edgewood was able to take it away.

Edgewood’s Ben Block bats down the puck and catches Eberle not ready and shoots it over his glove to give Edgewood a power play goal and a 1-0 lead. Both teams traded chances for the rest of the period with no change of score. Edgewood seemed to have more possession and chances in the period.

Edgewood continued their dominance in the first couple of minutes including killing off a carryover penalty and a breakaway. Eberle makes a nice blocker save on the breakaway to keep the game 1-0 Edgewood. Two penalties at different times had Edgewood on the powerplay but unable to convert with 7 minutes remaining in the second. Another penalty was called but this time putting Middleton into the power play. A second penalty would be called for interference putting Middleton on a 5 on 3 power play for just over a minute. Middleton would have multiple top-tier scoring chances but Rowen White made some crucial saves keeping the lead. The 5 on 3 penalty kill seemed to open the game up for both sides. Both teams pushed harder on offense giving some action-packed hockey. Both teams would even trade both reverse and regular hits on each other. Right at the end of the second White made a goal-line kick save on a wrap-around keeping Edgewood in the lead going into the third.

To start the third Edgewood would be stuck in their end with Middleton applying pressure. After that Edgewood would take the driver's seat. A couple of good chances would be in Edgewood’s favor. Eberle would make a nice save with his shoulder after Middleton’s Owen Barnet tried to snipe short side. Just under the 10-minute mark Middleton would have a grade-A scoring chance but couldn’t handle the pass and by the time the shot got off it was contested for an easy save. A penalty shot was awarded  to Edgewood and Davis Halbleib would come in and try to beat Eberle but missed the net keeping the game 1-0. Both teams continued to trade chances throughout. Middleton kept getting good chances but couldn't seem to get a good enough handle on the puck to score past White. With 1:30 left Middleton pulls their goalie to try to tie it up. With 23.1 seconds left Edgewood’s Matt Richter broke up a pass and found himself on a breakaway to put away the game at 2-0.

Middleton just couldn’t seem to get a good enough shot off to beat white. They failed to get shots and bodies to the net late in the period. Both goalies were great tonight. White made some great saves in the second to keep his shutout. Rowen White would End the night and stop all 21 shots he faced. Ian Eberle Faced 30 shots and stopped all but one to give himself a .967 save percentage on the night.\

Middleton’s next game is another tough opponent as they take on Hudson in Hudson on Dec 16th. Edgewood will find themselves in Baraboo Saturday night facing Baraboo/Portage co-op.
