The WiPH Game of the Week was in Janesville as the Bluebirds hosted KMMO in the home opener.
KMMO made themselves right at home and left with a 4-1 victory Tuesday night. Janesville had given up 19 goals in their first 2 games . Holding KMMO to 4 goals was progress for the birds. Scoring goals is still a work in progress however.
KMMO opened up the scring in the first period. Avery Nygard scored on the power play for the 1-0 lead. His shot from the top of the left circle deflected off a stick and got past Janesville goalie Kaled Erickson. But the Lasers didnt stop there. Seventeen seconds later they had a 2-0 lead from a shot by Dylan Nissen that went low stick side. Shots after the first period were 13-9 KMMO.
The second period saw KMMO take a couple penalties.. Janesville made it a 2-1 game on a 2 on 0 rush with Drew King tapping in a pass for a 2-1 deficit The Lasers got that goal back about 4 minutes later when a loose puck was tapped in by Henry Greves Janesville had a couple power play chances but KMMO goalie Maxwell York kept the score at 3-1 after 2 periods.
The third period saw KMMO put the game away for good early. Nolan Lawrenz. tallied just over two minutes into the third period for a 4-1 lead. From there the Lasers were able to shut down the Bluebirds and secured the 4-1 win.
KMMO moved their record on the season to 4 and 1 Janesville is still winless on the season at 0-3. KMMO plays Ashwaubenon on Friday. Janesville goes back on the road with a game Thursday night at Kenosha.
