Ice Bears Tame Wildcats

Speed and Depth Lead to Dominating Performance

The sectional 3 final, otherwise known as Eastern Shores Conference Tournament Duece, was between the #3 USM Wildcats and #1 Bay Area Ice Bears. The teams met on December 2, 2022 on the Wildcats' home ice. The Ice Bears scored in the second period and USM tied the game with 1:42 left in regulation. The Wildcats won that game 2-1 in overtime overcoming.  The shots on goal saw the Ice Bears outshoot USM 26 to 18. 

The puck dropped at 1:00 PM in Fond du Lac for the finals. The Ice Bears started with using their speed immediately to control the game. USM picked up a penalty at 4:09 for tripping, but were able to kill the opportunity to keep the score tied at 0. Bay Area took the lead at 8:12 on a goal by Kristina Kruse with Julianne Bradford assisting on the goal. The Wildcats found themselves having to kill off another power play chance for Bay Area as a checking call was accessed at 10:18 of the period. They were able to foil the Ice Bears to keep it a one goal deficit. 

Emily Bill bumped the lead to two with an assist from Addison Dahl at the 13:42 of the period. The Ice Bears went one player down, when called for checking at 14:56 of the first period. The Wildcats were attempting to bring the puck into the offensive zone, but Emily Bill forced a turnover in neutral ice. Bill took the puck and went from right to left on Molly Jex to score a shorthanded goal at 16:50. The Ice Bears led 3-0 at the end of the first period.

Charlotte Featherston scored the lone goal for the Wildcats at 9:46 of the third period. Featherston split 3 defenders who were attempting to keep her from getting the shot off. Featherston was able to get the shot off as falling to the ice and slip it past Anna Byczek.

The final score of the game was 3-1. The Ice Bears outshot the Wildcats 30-18.
