Thursday night, the Northern Edge Co-Op hosted Northland Pines in a Great Northern Conference matchup. Pines and Northern Edge were ranked 8th and 9th in the state, respectively, going into the game.

The pressure was high going into the game with both teams wanting to come out on top, not only for the standings, but for their pride as well.  Northland Pines fell to the Northern Edge 4-1 over all.

Northern Edge held the upper hand throughout the game, especially in the first and second periods. The Eagles had control of the puck in the neutral zone but gave it up multiple times and allowed Northern Edge to take 12 shots against Jenna Paez in the first period. Katie Detert scored the lone goal of the period to give the home team a one goal advantage going into the second period.

The Eagles tried to shake off the first goal, but it was evident that it was still in the back of their minds at the start of the second period. Katie Detert scored her second unassisted goal of the night five minutes into the period.

Emily Saltenberger scored a power play goal off of a rebound to cut the lead 2-1, but it wasn’t enough. Lauren Smith and Detert went on to score two more goals for the host team before the time on the clock would expire for the period.

Neither team was able to score another goal during the last period of the contest. However, there was four penalties, three against Northern Edge and one against Northland Pines.

The Eagles had a 5 on 4 advantage for the last thirty seconds of the game but were unable to do anything with the opportunity, leaving the score at 4-1 in favor of Northern Edge.
