A Game That Had Everything

A small bench Medford Raider team made the trip to Hartland to take on an emotional Warhawks team on Senior night. The Warhawks recognized their senior players between the first and periods.

The Warhawks Bella Hamel scored at 1:29 of the first period with Alexa Jarvis and Rowan Smith assisting on the play. The Warhawks collected a roughing penalty 12 seconds later to put the Raiders on the power play. While Medford was unable to score on their power play opportunity, the Warhawks had no inhibitions about scoring a short-handed goal. Bella Hamel collected her second goal of the period, while on the penalty kill at 2:33 of the first. Arrowhead had another penalty for high-sticking at 6:45 of the first and once again killed the penalty off. The Raiders were called for slashing as the period expired with the Warhawks leading 2-0.

Arrowhead started the second period on the power play, but the Raiders were able to keep them from tallying another goal during that time. Arrowhead's Amelia Altmann bumped the lead to 3 with an assist from Rae Lahr at 7:45 of the second. With the Warhawks up by 3, it was time for the penalty box monitors to get some activity for the evening. Medford was accessed a 2 minute minor for high-sticking at 8:04 of the second, but would not give up a power play opportunity as Arrowhead was charged with a 5 minute major for head contact. The Raiders did give Arrowhead a 4-on-3 opportunity at the 9:13 mark, when they were called for hooking. Fifty-on seconds later the game was back to 4-on-4. Arrowhead was called for a 5 minute major plus a game disqualification penalty at 11:07 of the second period. Then Medford had a player go to the sin bin for interference at 12:50 of the second period. Even with all these penalties, the score remained 3-0 in Arrowhead's favor at the end of two.

The third period found Arrowhead giving Medford another power play opportunity at 1:31 of the period, when called for body checking. The Raiders were shutdown on their power play chance. Medford was called for slashing at 3:32 and Kendall Danielson scored a power play goal with an assist from Sara Kopf at 4:05. Amelia Altmann and Andrea Harvey assisted on Ahna Ruppenthal's goal at 9:01 of the third to complete the goal scoring for the game. Each team collected one more penalty each in the third. Arrowhead won 5-0.

Arrowhead plays their third game in as many days as they travel to Viroqua for a game on Saturday. Medford will play Brookfield in Brookfield on Saturday.
