Badger Conference Game Goes to Beaver Dam

A trip to Viroqua on a chilly Friday night. A "THANK YOU" to Coach Severson for allowing me to take pictures from the team bench. Most of all a "THANK YOU" to the players for a night of reminding me why I love high school and youth sports.

Once the puck dropped, Beaver Dam fiercely attacked the offensive zone. Addy Damon assisted on Lilian Mansueto's goal 55 seconds into the game to put the Golden Beavers up 1-0. Beaver Dam's Addison Hoekstra scored an unassisted goal at 3:23 to give the Golden Beavers a 2 goal lead. This concluded the scoring for the first period.

The second period found Viroqua collecting 4 penalties throughout the period. Emerson Damon increased Beaver Dam's lead to 3 with an assist from Addy Mylrea at 8:44 of the second period. Beaver Dam scored a power play goal at 11:45, when Damon picked up her second goal of the game with Audrey Lont and Lilian Mansueto assisting on the play. Beaver Dam led 4-0 at the end of two.

While the third period was scoreless and the only penalty called was on Beaver Dam, both teams kept the pressure up through the entire period. The Blackhawks were constantly looking for shots, but unfortunately for them Beaver Dam was able to deflect the majority from making it to their goaltender Emily Smedema.

Emily Smedema finished the game stopping all of the 21 shots that made it to the net. Viroqua's Sami Branstedt finished the game with 46 saves. Beaver Dam is heading to Marathon County Park in Wausau on January 20th to play the Central Wisconsin Storm in a 5 PM game. Viroqua will be traveling to The Ice Pond at Waunakee for a 7:30 PM conference game on January 20th.
