A highly promising young man that has been a pleasure to coach and get to know as a person over the past 4 years.  Senior, Eddie Matsushima is a very admirable student-athlete and should be recognized as a qualified recipient of 11-12 Mr. Hockey Award.

The coaching staff considers Eddie to be one of the most dedicated and passionate players & students in our program.  Eddie has made an impact on this program since his freshman year, as the only 9th grader  on varsity, helping the team make a state tournament appearance.  After battling injuries his sophomore season and undergoing shoulder surgery which kept him out most all of junior year; he was limited to any major post season awards. He has been determined to make an impact his senior season after an intense summer of training. Eddie had a great start this fall with TW-U18 Team; finishing up this fall as 3rd on team in points, and getting selected for the Bauer NIT.  He has begun to get interest from several junior hockey teams and select university programs.  This high school season, he was overwhelmingly nominated as team captain by his teammates and currently leads the team in goals/points.

Academic achievement:
Eddie carries an impressive 3.89 Cumulative GPA. Member of the Verona High School Mentors Program, FCCLA, Bridges Multicultural Leadership Group, and National Honor Society for the last two years. Eddie was also selected representative at the American Legion’s Badger Boys State this past summer.

Involvement in community:
Eddie is regularly involved in the community; some activities include blood donation, meal on wheels, youth hockey coaching, Dane County hockey official,  and a special needs hockey program assistant. Helps with the Special Olympics: Polar Plug Event. He is the selected leader for the “Rachel’s Challenge” initiative this year for Verona HS.

• Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do
• 3rd season in the Team Wisconsin Program (2 Years on the U16 Team)
• This season is on the U18 Team. Third on team in points (24GP, 10G, 11A)
• 1 of 4 TW Players Selected to Play in the 2011 Bauer NIT (3GP, 1G, 2A)
