Fox Cities 2011-12 Preview

The Stars go into the 2011-12 with high expectations. The team is looking to build on a strong 2010-11 season, that ended as one of it's most successful in their 9 year history.  The Stars should be a very experienced group, as they are returning 14 players from last season.

The Stars will be very strong at the forward position, as they return 8 of their top 10 scorers from last season. Those returning include All-State Honorable Mention Payton Trammel, who was 2nd in the state in scoring last season (63 points). Other returners inlcude Team Wisconsin Alternate Kang So Lee (27 points), and  the team's leading assist man Max Mantey (41 points). The Stars will also be looking for strong offensive contributions from Trey Hanson (Sr),  Colin Englebert (Jr), Jarik Nemeth (So), Garret Benz (So), and Freshman Riley Hughson.

A big question mark for the Stars this season will be at defense, as the Stars lost 3 players from last season. The Stars should have a solid foundation as last year's top scoring defensman Lucas Ohland (26 points), will be looking to have a strong Senior season. Other returners on the blue line from last season are Junior Nathaniel Thomas( who will look to build on a solid 2nd half of the season last year), and Junior Cole Hunter. There will be strong competition for the final couple spots at defense, as incoming Freshman Matt Piette will be pushing other upper classman for a spot.

The key for success this year will be a team commitment to improve it's play in the D-Zone. The team gave up a team record 126 goals last year. The Stars will be returning last season starting goalie Brandon Philipsen, and with the addition of transfer goalie Brett Nyman the Star's should have great competition in net this year.

The team has lofty goals for this season, as they look to win the Badgerland Conference title, and compete with the area's top team to earn a first ever State Tournament birth.
