Big first period, Larsen the difference in Wings Section 7 win

Five goals in the opening period and 35 saves stop Marquette

The Marquette Hilltoppers got on the board first in the Section 7 final game held at Nagawaukee Ice Arena Friday night, but the Waukesha Wings responded a minute later, and then added four more goals in final eight minutes of the period to coast to a 5-2 win that will send the Wings flying to Madison this week.

Jacob Slater scored on the power play to give Marquette a 1-0 lead just over three minutes in, but then the Wings took over.

Ben Sorge, Riley Cassada, Garrett Wilderman, Chad Larsen, and Ethan Thombs all scored in a span of just less than 12 minutes to send the game to the first break with a 5-1 Waukesha lead.

Matthew McKenna scored on the power play for the Hilltoppers with six minutes left in the final period to account for the final score.

Garrett Larsen stopped 35 shots in the game for Waukesha, while Nick Ahlers have 14 saves for Marquette.

The Wings received the 7th seed for Quarterfinal Thursday and will take on #2 Wausau West at 4pm, the first game of the evening session.
