Sophomore forward tallies five points in 6-2 win

Amanda Bauer was going to make sure her team would not be denied a trip to the Sectional Final.

With 4 goals and 1 assist she ensured Cap City would return to the Final to face Onalaska. Bauer got the scoring started early. With the Lynx on a power play and trying to change, she picked up a loose puck and sprinted up ice. She made a great cut back on the backchecking defender and walked in alone on Lynx goaltender, Gwen Parker. She fired a quick wrist shot that went over Parker's shoulder and just under the crossbar to put the Cougars up 1-0 just 6 minutes in.

Cap City’s Kendra Sanderfoot put them up 2-0 just 4 minutes later. The Lynx had possession in the Cougars zone but an errant pass got by the defenseman and Sanderfoot won the race to the puck. She streaked in on a breakaway and fired a shot past Parker.

The Lynx battled back. Megan Biesmann took the puck at the blue line and walked down the right side firing a shot at the net. Sierra Berg was able to poke in the rebound on the power play at 4:26 to make it 2-1 and give them some confidence heading into the second period.

However, it would be Cap City that would capitalize. Again, Amanda Bauer would come forward scoring a power play goal 7 minutes into the second period. The Cougars were moving the puck well making tape to tape passes. The initial shot came from the point creating a battle in front. Sanderfoot outbattled the Lynx defenders and got off another shot that was initially stopped by Parker. However, the rebound kicked out to the back door where Bauer was waiting and slammed it home.

Shots were even that period, but the Lynx were unable to get anything past the Cougars goaltender, Taylor Knox.

In the third period, it was once again Cap City scoring first. Lauren Bliefernicht was battling along the wall with a couple of Lynx players and was able to create a turnover. She walked in to the top of the circles letting loose a shot. A Lynx defender was able to get a stick on it but it deflected high and Parker was unable to coral it putting the Cougars up 4-1.

With about 5:30 left in the game the Lynx pulled Parker in a desperation move. Once again, Bauer would rise to the occasion. The Lynx had the puck in the Cougar’s end but they were able to chip it out. While the Lynx were attempting to regroup, Bauer applied pressure causing a turnover. She won the race to the loose puck and fired a quick shot that hit a Lynx player and found its way to the back of the net making it 5-1.

One minute later, Lynx player Lily Waxenberg gave them some life when she created a turnover in the offensive zone taking a quick wrist shot that fooled Knox high to the glove side.

At 5-2, the Lynx again pulled Parker with 3 minutes left trying again to close the gap.

Step forward, Amanda Bauer.

The Lynx had possession in the offensive zone and it moved up to the point. Bauer quickly closed the distance and forced a turnover. She then won the race to the loose puck tucking it into the net and leading her team to the Sectional Finals.

Gwen Parker finished with 19 saves and Taylor Knox with 21.
