Parker stops 29 in 3-1 win

Truly a battle of two of the best goaltenders in the state between Abigail Severson and Gwen Parker.

The Lynx came out with a lot of energy in the first. They put a lot of pressure on Severson, firing 12 shots at her and netting two goals.

Gwen Parker was outstanding, keeping the Hawks of the board in the first.

Sierra Berg scored the first goal for the Lynx with an assist to Haley Meskin. She made a great play picking up the puck and circling in the offensive zone, eventually cutting across the slot. She fired a shot high over Severson's glove to make it 1-0 at the 6:04 mark.

Berg wasn't done yet. On the power play with 49 seconds left she picked up the puck in the neutral zone, skated past a forward, cut between both defensemen, faked a shot and walked around Severson to tap it in the open net.

The second period was scoreless but only because Parker made some incredible saves. She stopped several point blank opportunities and made a fantastic save when the puck moved from her right all the way to the left side where a waiting Blackhawk player ripped a shot. Parker slid over making the save and then clearing the rebound.

Severson was solid in the second also, not allowing a goal. Berg had a shorthanded breakaway, but Severson denied her attempt. Late in the second period with only seconds left, the Lynx were on a power play and rifling shot after shot but Severson closed the door making a quick glove save at the buzzer.

In the third, both goalies were great stopping breakaways and multiple shots at a time. At 13:50, it was the Lynx's Meskin, picking up a goal to put them ahead 3-0. Berg passed the puck to the point where Jenna Culp fired a quick shot that was deflected in front and found its way past Severson.

The Hawks never gave up and were paid off for their effort. The Lynx were short two players and Parker was turning away shot after shot after shot.

The first penalty ended, but at the 2:32 mark, Sylvi Shonka took a pass from Maia Barendregt and fired a shot that hit the post, then Parker and trickled over the line to make it 3-1.

The Blackhawks had another chance on a scramble in front but couldn’t find the handle. Both goalies proved why they are tops in the state making incredible saves all night. Parker was able to outduel Severson tonight making 29 saves and help propel the Lynx to victory.
