fast start and shorthanded goals factor in win

The Janesville Bluebirds used a fast start and three goals on special teams to defeat WNS 4-0 Thursday night in Janesville.

Janesville lead 20 seconds into the game as Tyler Edwards tipped a Ben Coulter shot past Storm goalie Max Gehrmann.

Late in the first period Janesville found themselves killing a penalty but ended up converting a shorthanded chance into a 2-0 lead. The puck was poked out of the Janesville zone where Ben Coulter was able to beat a WNS skater to the puck, skated in and scored on a stretched out Gehrmann for the goal.

The host Bluebirds found themselves on a power play in the second period and were able to convert on it. The puck was looking like it was going out of the zone but Cayden Erickson was able to step up and sent a hard slap shot thru bodies in front for a 3-0 lead thru two periods.

The third period saw WNS starting the third on a power play and once again Ben Coulter won another race when he poked the puck loose and went in and scored shorthanded for the 4-0 lead.

WNS tried very hard to get the offense going with leading scorer Dominic Murano but was turned away each time frustrating the Storm, and Janesville skating away a 4-0 winner.

Shots in the game were 22-21 Janesville with goalie Cody Kaas earning a shutout. Janesville now moves on to sectional play Tuesday to play top seed Waukesha at Nagawaukee Ice.

WNS ended their season with a 14-10 record
