Parker stops 37 in overtime win over Ice Bears

It was Senior Day and the Lynx were fired up. They came out fast in the first period and were pressuring when Ava Downing was able to fire a shot that was deflected in front but found a way to the back of the net to put the Lynx up 1-0.

Gwen Parker was fantastic, stopping all 12 shots the Ice Bears fired at her in the first. She made most of those saves on a 5-on-3 penalty kill. She stopped multiple back door opportunities the Ice Bears threw at her.

In the second the Lynx found themselves in penalty problems again having two players in the box. Parker was outstanding turning aside all the shots the Ice Bears fired at her.

At 6:11 of the second period, Madison Anderson was left all alone in front and ripped a shot high over Parker's shoulder to tie the game at one.

The Ice Bears continued to pressure the Lynx.

They took advantage late in the period. Kallianne Mikesch was left all alone in front of Parker. She fired a shot that Parker stopped but Mikesch picked up the rebound and fired again only to be turned aside again. Mikesch did not give up and picked up the loose puck and beat Parker far side to put the Ice Bears up 2-1 with only seven seconds left in the period.

The third period saw the Ice Bears outshoot the Lynx 12-3. With just under three minutes left in the game and the face off in the neutral zone, the Lynx pulled Parker for the extra attacker.

The Lynx gained the zone but could not get full control. The puck kicked back to the point and was moved over to Jenna Culp, who fired a quick shot that found its way through a screen to tie the game with 2:18 left.

Overtime was over quick. The Lynx gained the zone and passed from defense to defense and Ava Downing fired a quick shot that found its way through traffic in front to win the game just 1:31 into OT.

Parker was outstanding against the visiting Bay Area Ice Bears, stopping 37 of 39 shots in the win.

On the other end, Jenna Christophersen stopped 11 shots in the game.
