Janesville loss to Middleton not pretty

The Janesville Bluebirds and Middleton Cardinals played a Friday matinee game in Janesville to makeup a postponed game due to weather. When these two teams play its usually a pretty competitive matchup.

This game had little drama as Middleton put up 4 goals before Janesville could get one, and got a 5-1 win.

Middleton was on the board twice in the first period scoring two goals in a 2 minute span.

Brooks Kalschuer was first to score as a shot was put on net and he was able to backhand a rebound over Janesville goalie Cody Kaas for the score. The next goal was Bryce Schuster stealing the puck from a Janesville defenseman at the blue line, picking up the puck and deking Kaas and scoring for a 2-0 Middleton lead at the first intermission with Middleton holding a 9-5 advantage.

Middleton scored twice also in the second period on Janesville mistakes. On the first one the Janesville dman tried to step up while pinching in at the point. Middleton was able to get the puck out of the zone and a 3 on 1 started with Bryce Schuster finishing with his second goal.

Later in the period Middleton dumped the puck in the offensive zone with it going behind the net. However the Janesville goalie got caught up by the side of the net as the puck was centered to the slot where Brooks Kalschuer was and he buried it for a 4-0 Middleton lead thru 2 periods.

Shots were 9-7 Middleton in the period.

Janesville did get on the board in the third period. Their leading scorer Ben Coulter was able to get a shorthanded goal with Charlie Degarmo getting the assist with just under 5 minutes left. Any momentum that was gained was lost with just over 2 minutes left when a shot squirmed thru for a 5-1 Cardinal lead with Andrew Chafe scoring that one to finish up the scoring.
