2000 Old Abe grad is battling leukemia

It's always nice when a group of hockey players can get together for a homecoming. But in the case of Tony Navarre and his Eau Claire Memorial breathren, it's not all fun and games.

Yes, the Old Abes did come back to Hobbs Ice Arena to play some hockey.

But the purpose was to hold a fundraiser for Navarre, who was diagnosed with leukemia earlier this year.

ECM alumni Jefferson Dahl and Jake Dowell were two that participated in the ten team 3-on-3 tournament.

For Dowell, the benefit for Navarre hits close to home, as his dad and brother both suffer from Huntington's Disease.

"A lot of people have given back to me and my family with our situation, so I think to be able come here and be with friends and be with family and go out here and play hockey, it's the coolest charity thing we can do for somebody," says Dowell.

The event raised more than $4500 for Tony's family.
