Girls goalies win out for the second week in a row, Siegmeier an “X-factor”

emma quimby, hayward

Junior goaltender Emma Quimby of the Hayward Hurricanes earned Week 10 girls player of the week.

She had 27 saves, 2 goals against in Hayward's 2-2 tie with Hudson and 28 saves, 0 goals against with a 1-0 win over Duluth Marshall, MN.

Coach Tom Duffy writes:

Emma is a great student first. She maintains a 4.0-grade point average and is a member of the National Honor Society.  After high school graduation, she plans to attend college to study pre-med and participate in both hockey and softball.  Emma is also an exceptional hockey player.

She has a 1.42 goals against on a team that has a .500 winning percentage, a .933 save percentage and eight shutouts.  What makes this more amazing is that she had off-season surgery and was questionable as to whether she was going to make it back for the start of the season.  Not only is Emma is a leader on our team, she also has to drive 70 miles to and from each practice and home game, as she lives in Grantsburg and commutes to Hayward.  She is a great kid and deserves all the credit for what she has accomplished this year.

lochlan siegmeier, northland pines

Senior forward Lochlan Siegmeier of the #1 ranked Northland Pines had 3 points (2g, 1a) in a 7-0 win over Medford and 2 goals in a 4-0 win over #2 University School-Milwaukee.

Coach David Cox writes:

He is probably the most improved player on our team numbers-wise from last year to this year. He has always been a high skill guy, but is taking it to a totally different level in 2018-19. He has 19 goals and 8 assists through 19 games so far on the year. He runs our second power play and could play all positions even goalie and challenge for playing time if needed.  He has scored huge goals for us this year and has been the ‘X-Factor’ in most of our big games.

We may miss him more than any other player next year due to graduation. He is a State level hurdler and high jumper in track and an All Conference soccer player.
