Knauf's four goal game helps Fury to victory

The Rock County Fury's last game proved to be a close one with Viroqua's Abigail Severson in net. Severson kept her team in the game with 60 saves in a 2-1 Fury overtime win.

This time it didn't need extra minutes.

Alyssa Knauf scored four times and Olivia Cronin stopped 32 shots in the Fury's 6-1 win Saturday in Beloit.

The Fury got the first goal of the game just over twelve minutes in.

Severson was up to her ways again denying goals, but Alyssa Knauf found a loose puck in the crease and put it past Severson for the 1-0 Fury lead after the first period.

The second period had Rock County buzzing the net almost at will but still nothing to show for it. But just past the ten minute mark, Alyssa Knauf scored again when sister Haley Knauf got the puck along the boards and centered it to the slot. Alyssa gathered up the puck, spun and sent the puck on net where it went in for a 2-0 lead.

Viroqua, who skated with nine skaters and a goalie, was still putting in hard work and finally got the game within one goal late in the second period. With under four minutes left in the second period, a scramble by the Fury net ensued and Viroqua's Erin Simonson flipped a loose puck over Cronin and suddenly the Blackhawks were within one after two periods, 2-1.

The third period saw the game go to an all-Fury period.

Anika Einbeck scored on a puck she got off the end boards, skated out and sniped the puck for the 3-1 Fury lead. Alyssa Knauf finished her hat trick plus one with two goals wrapped around a first career varsity goal by Freshman Anna Malone. Malone scored on a shot low on the ice thru traffic.

"We knew we had to get many shots on her," said Alyssa Knauf. "We hadn't played in a while and had to knock off some dust," said Knauf.

Saves in the game were 44 for Severson, while Cronin stopped 32 for the Fury.

The Fury has a non-conference pair of games next week at Arrowhead Tuesday, and in Janesville Friday hosting the Wisconsin Valley Union.
