Sixth annual game to take place on February 2

Story Text

On February 2nd, USM and Homestead will once again participate in an event that is more than just a hockey game. The annual Coaches vs. Cancer game reunites these teams in a battle on the ice for a greater cause off the ice.

This season we honor a former HHS Hockey player battling cancer, Eric Westadt, along with USM parent and survivor, Marilyn Herzberg. Both honorees will participate in a ceremonial puck drop and team pictures prior to the start of the game.

  • This season marks the 6th official Coaches vs. Cancer game featuring HHS and USM
  • Began in 2013/14 to honor both coaches who battled cancer
    • Cal Roadhouse, former head coach of USM (Head and Neck Cancer)
    • Tony Navarre current head coach of HHS (AML - Leukemia)
  • 2014/15 both teams purchased uniforms to wear with the color of the cancer ribbon displayed on the uniform.
  • All proceeds from the game go to support Relay for Life
  • Based on past 6 seasons about $14,000-$16,000 have been raised to support Relay for Life, including $3500 last season alone.

Each year the teams look forward to a great game supported by all the fans of both schools.

Looking forward to another game for a great cause!
