When North hockey star Zach Urdahl circled this weekend for a trip to Green Bay, his original plan was to attend a Gamblers game as a fan.
The team that holds his United States Hockey League rights, the Lincoln Stars, was in town, setting up for a perfect road trip with the Huskies off until Tuesday.
The gameplan quickly changed when Lincoln asked if he wanted to play.
“Obviously, I jumped at the opportunity,” Urdahl said.
Good thing he did. Urdahl, who leads the Big Rivers in goals this season and is fifth in the state, showed scouts and the Stars that he can score at the next level, too. The junior winger scored twice on Friday, his first of two games with Lincoln, in a 4-3 shootout loss to Green Bay.
Even he didn’t think his junior hockey debut would go that well.
