Kaley Manglitz has 5 point game in win

The Rock County Fury on Saturday hosted the Onalaska Hilltoppers in a crucial matchup for seeding in the playoffs.

Onalaska's Kaley Manglitz made sure her team was gonna be a factor in the top seed for the playoffs. She and the rest of the Hilltoppers got a big 5-3 win Saturday in Monroe.

"We treated this game like a playoff game," said Manglitz.

But it was the Fury who came out fast and strong with a goal by Alyssa Knauf scoring the first of her two goals in the game with 11:30 left first period.

The Fury got another goal to open up a 2-0 lead from Anika Einbeck and was unassisted.

But the Hilltoppers started to get things going after that and kept Fury goalie Olivia Cronin very busy. Just after a minute past the Fury goal Onalaska got two goals in less than two minutes with Freshman Kiya Bronston being set up each time by Manglitz and also once by with extra help by Emily Brueggeman.

The first period ended with a 2-2 score. Both teams put 14 shots on goal in the first period alone.

The second period had Onalaska  opening things up to a two goal lead. Kaley Manglitz scored 34 seconds in with Bronston and Brueggeman assisting. Again that line would strike with Bronston at 10:17 left in the period for a 4-2 lead.

The Fury tried but goalie Izzy Lassa picked up her game and turned away some shots. But on a power play with nine seconds left second period the Fury made it a one goal game with Alyssa Knauf bouncing a shot off Lassa that snuck thru her near post side for a 4-3 Hilltopper lead after the second period.

The third period had the Fury with a lot of offensive zone time but Lassa was able to stop 19 shots in the period. The Fury got a timeout with 1:40 left and got the extra attacker on for the faceoff. The puck was dumped into the Fury zone and Manglitz battled and finally got the empty net goal for the final 5-3 score.

In the game Lassa made 42 saves. "I was so proud of how she played today, she battled so hard," said Manglitz.

"I could track the puck well and see the ice nice so that helped," said Lassa. "This is a big win for us and gives us a lot of confidence".

In the game, Bronston finished with a hat trick and an assist.

Olivia Cronin was able to stop 33 shots for the Fury.
