What can you do in 46 seconds?

Well, if you are driving in a car at 78 miles per hour, you can travel just about a mile in 46 seconds.

Or you could watch the video linked on the right in which Steve Jobs takes 46 seconds to give you the secret of life: “Once you learn that, you’ll never be the same again.”

Or, if you are the Fox Cities Stars, you can score three goals and turn a 2-0 deficit against the Central Wisconsin Storm into a 3-2 lead, then ride that out for the last 24 minutes to claim victory on Thursday night at Marathon Park.

The game did not start well for the visiting Stars. It took but 26 seconds for Sarah Croker to bat in a rebound of a blocked Eden Gruber shot to put the Storm up 1-0.

At 4:55 Fox Cities goalie Hattie Berndt stopped a shot from Lauren Ellis and kicked the puck out. Unfortunately, the rebound bounced off the skate of a Stars player and back into the net, padding the Storm lead to 2-0.

The shots on goal by each team were even in the first period. Berndt stopped 5 of the 7 shots sent her way, while Katrina Fredrickson stopped all 7 of the shots she faced in the Central Wisconsin net.

The second period was back and forth action, but no scoring for the first eight-plus minutes. Then things got interesting. McKayla Zilisch grabbed the puck behind the Storm net and passed out front to Alaina Schauf. Fredrickson stopped Schauf’s shot, but Kourtney Koster was right there to put home the rebound and get the Stars on the scoreboard.

13 seconds later Lauryn Hull took a pass in the low slot from Annika Horman. Hull’s quick one-timer beat Fredrickson on the glove side and quickly tied the game at 2 goals each.

33 seconds after that, at the end of her shift, Hull threw the puck towards the net from in front of the Stars bench. With all the traffic in and around the bench area, Fredrickson didn’t see the puck until it was too late to stop. And just like that, the Stars had a 3-2 lead.

There were plenty of tense moments and scoring opportunities for both sides after that flurry, but there would be no more scoring. The final shot count showed the Stars leading 25-21.
