Junior goalie Abigail Severson of Viroqua played well enough to earn herself week 4 Player of the Week for the girls.
Severson currently sits at a 0.936 save percentage on the season and holds the #3 spot for save percentage in girl’s goalies. Head coach Paul Severson writes, “Abby is a fierce competitor who loves the sport of hockey. Last summer she played for three teams (Chippewa Valley Ice Badgers, Wisconsin Jr. Stars, and the Wisconsin Selects). She's met many of her good friends this way from throughout the state, and usually has a friend or two on each team she faces during the season."
Severson continues: "Abby has worked hard to improve her game and works with her goalie coach, Ray Ess, during the offseason. Hockey has been her passion; she's wanted to be a goalie since her mite days (when she was pushing other kids out of the net so she could play)."
Junior Isaac Wickersheim of the Antigo Red Robins scored seven points in three games to earn boys player of the week.
Wickersheim has 16 points (10g, 6a) on the season. Head coach Matthew Borneman writes, “After an unfortunate week which saw us go 0-3, Isaac Wickersheim’s offensive grit and determination helped lead our team to bounce back with a 3-0 week. Wick is a physical forward with a never-ending offensive motor. His compete factor is off the charts, he plays with high energy and an absolute passion to grind. His style of play has been an X-factor for Antigo teams since his freshmen year. With our young team this season, his lead by example play is crucial for our continued development. Wick raises the level of play of everyone on our bench, and gives us the spark we need to switch momentum in our favor. The ceiling for Isaac is very high, we are extremely excited for his hockey abilities and leadership to continue developing and see where it takes him and his team.”
