Four second periods goals lead to Silver Eagles victory

A hat trick by Michael Zande proved to be the scoring difference as Monona Grove used a four-goal second period to take down Badger South foe Monroe on the road on Tuesday night to move into third place in the conference.

The Silver Eagles got the scoring going mid-way through the first period, 7:14 into the game, when Connor Handel put away a pass from Ethan Johnson to make it 1-0 Monona Grove. Monroe answered five minutes later on a power-play goal by Jared Cline, who hammered away glove-side to tie the game at a goal apiece after one period.

While the first period was fairly even, the second period was all Monona Grove. Michael Zande got the first of his three goals in the period unassisted at 6:27 in to the frame. Two minutes later, Tanner Smith lit the lamp with a power-play goal unassisted to extend the Monona Grove lead to 3-1. Zande's second goal of the second period came at the 11:57 mark, burying a rebound try in front of goal to move the Silver Eagles ahead 4-1.
