Fury Wins Conference opener

Nerad and Haley Knauf have 3 point game

The Rock County Fury on Friday night in Stoughton taking on the Icebergs in Stoughton in Badger Conference play. The Fury were playing in their conference opener.

The Fury got scoring from five different skaters and got a solid defensive effort in a 5-1 victory. 

Rock County looked to use a speed game plan and finally broke open the scoring late in the first period. Anika Einbeck scored with 55 seconds left in the first period with Sara Nerad getting credited with the assist.

The Fury kept up their speed and tenacity game in the second period. But the only tally for the Fury was 23 seconds into the period with Haley Knauf and Cammi Ganshert getting assists on a power play goal by Alyssa Knauf.

After being outshot 8-7 in the second period the Fury tallied three times to put the game away. Haley Knauf scored with assists to Sara Nerad and Alyssa Knauf for a 3-0 lead. Nerad added a goal from the blueline to her three point night to make it 4-0. To finish off the Fury scoring Mya Maslonka with help from Freshman Olivia Combs ended the Fury's night of scoring.

The Icebergs did break thru in the third period spoiling Fury goalie Olivia Cronin's  attempt at a shutout. Sydney Schipper scored a shorthanded goal with 1:18 left to get the final 5-1 score.

Fury goalie Olivia Cronin ended the night stopping 19 of 20. Icebergs goalie Abby Seybold had 25 saves in the game.

The Fury are back in conference play Tuesday night against Badger Lightning in Beloit. The Icebergs Friday night host the same Badger Lightning squad in Stoughton.
