Verstegen seals victory with empty netter

Lassa posts 22 saves in loss

The Alliance traveled to Onalaska to take on the Hilltoppers in Wisconsin Prep Hockey's Game of the Week. The Hilltoppers were completing two games in two days, while the Alliance were playing their first game of two games in two days.

The Alliance took the early lead on a goal by TJ Lindeman with Maike Zipp and Claire Bresser assisting on the goal at 8:22 of the first period. The Hilltoppers trailed 1-0 at the end of the first period.

The Alliance increased the lead to 2 at 12:07 of the second period. Emily Brown and Drew Deanovich assisted on Hattie Verstegen's goal. The Alliance led 2-0 at the end of two.

Onalaska's Kaley Manglitz cut the deficit to 1, when she scored with Emily Brueggeman and Taylor Fox being credited with assists. Coach Thorn called a timeout with 2:41 remaining in regulation. Onalaska went on the attack and Onalaska's goaltender, Lassa, headed to the bench with 1:23 on the clock. Onalaska applied offensive pressure, but Verstegen picked up a loose puck along the boards, skated into the Hilltopper's defensive zone and put the puck in the empty net to seal the victory with 46.3 seconds on the clock.
