Jerry Swenson will be honored at McFarland-Madison Edgewood game

After serving a hitch in the U.S. Marine Corps and the Marine Corps Reserve, Jerry Swenson must have longed for his days as a youth when he played pond hockey in Madison.

Swenson helped establish McFarland Youth Hockey and was instrumental in expanding the group and its membership. He will be recognized for his contributions to the game Friday when the McFarland High School hockey team plays its home opener at 7 p.m. against Madison Edgewood at the McFarland Community Ice Arena.

A 2018 inductee of the Wisconsin Hockey Hall of Fame, Swenson not only served as president and vice president on the McFarland Youth Hockey’s board of directors for 21 years, he also chaired its first fundraiser and coached the first Mite team. He also coached the Squirts and Bantams, and twice finished second in the Wisconsin Amateur Hockey Association (WAHA) Bantam state tournament. Swenson served as a coach in the Ice Mites Learn to Skate program for 22 seasons.
