Makenzie Weeks and Brendan Poshak earn first player of the week for the 2018-2019 season

Freshman Makenzie Weeks of the Western Wisconsin Stars earned WiPH's Player of the Week award for the first week of the 2018-2019 season.

The freshman scored six points in three games her opening weekend of her varsity career. Makenzie notched two goals versus honorable mention Black River Falls on Friday night and finished the weekend with a hat trick and one assist to push the Western Wisconsin Stars to a 4-0 win over Black River on Saturday night.

Not only did Makenzie Weeks show up big on the scoreboard in her varsity debut, but she back check consistently, blocked shots and was a huge positive voice on the bench for WWS. Makenzie is one of the only freshmen in the state that put up six points in their first weekend of varsity hockey.

On the boy’s side, sophomore and Northern Michigan University commit Brendan Poshak of Notre Dame, earned Player of the Week.

Poshak had a total of seven points last week. Despite Poshak’s smaller stature (5’8” and 145lbs), he showed up big on the scoreboard. He scored two goals and one helper in their 4-4 tie versus Eau Claire Memorial.

Less than 24 hours later, Brendan put up four points, including two goals and two assists in Notre Dame’s 5-0 win over #7 ranked Wausau West.

Poshak is currently averaging three points per game and the Northern Michigan Wildcats (6-9) are likely looking forward to him showing up on the scoreboard.
