Sisters look to help the Fury compete in Badger Conference

Alyssa and Haley Knauf of the Rock County Fury enjoyed their first season after youth hockey.

After playing for Monroe youth hockey on a team made up of mostly boys the previous season, the first year in girls high school hockey each piled up good numbers helping the Fury win their first conference title.

"The speed when playing with the boys was much faster," said Alyssa Knauf. "You really had to think much faster."

"You really had to keep your head on a swivel," said Haley Knauf.

They proved to make the jump to girls high school hockey pretty easy relying on the skills they learned. Haley scored 27 points and sister Alyssa scored 26. While both underclassmen, they watched as the Fury had seven seniors, including All-State forward Maggy Henschler and defender Dani Heitsman, who led the way through a tough schedule including another trip to the sectional final.

But that was last season. Now its their time to shine.

After both girls played Team Wisconsin this fall they are ready to get the season started.

"Even though we lost a lot of players from last year I think we still have a strong team," said Haley, who missed some time last season with an injury but looks forward to her time back after TW to play with the Fury.

"It's fun to play with a good group of girls,' said Alyssa.

Playing on the same line has worked well for them; Alyssa, a sophomore center, and Haley, a junior left wing, feed well off each other.

"We played together for so long and we know what the other is thinking," said Haley. "She knows where I'm gonna pass the puck and vice versa," said Alyssa.

While on the same line, the sisters are very close off the ice.

"Everyone thinks we're twins and I guess we act like twins," said Haley.

With a new season starting November 17 against Brookfield, the girls look to keep the team goals the same: win conference and go on a deep playoff run.

Both agreed. They've gotten used to know what the other one is thinking.
