RWD looking for players to step up after loss of Dylan Brown

Let’s face it, the Reedsburg/Wisconsin Dells/Mauston boys hockey program won’t be the same without Dylan Brown.

Brown capped off his high school career in a stellar way last season, amassing 38 goals and 47 assists in the regular season to lead the state in points. While the Cheavers will look for ways to fill the role of the all-star forward, Brown isn’t the only graduated skater who made an impact in last year’s squad which posted an 18-5-1 record. RWD will also feel the loss of Jacob Ely, who was second in team points last season with 46, along with Ben Horzewski (38 pts), Austin Conroy (16 pts), Tarren Gruber (12 pts) and starting goalie Nicolas Breunig, who recorded 446 saves.

“RWD will be in a little bit of a rebuilding mode this season,” said Neil Mattson, who enters his 22nd year as head coach. “We graduated a good group of seniors last year and also top points player in the state, Dylan Brown. We need find ways to fill the 200-plus points we lost to graduation last season.”
