The Lake Delton Village Board approved $40,000 for the study of the feasibility of a hockey sports complex and a new member of the board at a meeting Monday, April 23.
Toby Kinsler, a former hockey player and coach, and the developer of sports venues, proposed the study of putting hockey sports complex in Lake Delton that would include space for national championship hockey tournaments among high school and younger participants. It would also include a hockey training facility that was described by Mike Sullivan
Sullivan, of the Wisconsin Hockey Academy said he grew up playing hockey, played college hockey and has coached high school and college hockey. He said Wisconsin lacks a site where teens can develop their hockey skills. Because the state lacks a hockey academy, he said, 50 to 60 students go to other states to receive their training and development.
Lake Delton would be ideal for the academy because it is centrally located in both the state and nation, Kinsler said. Lake Delton also has sufficient hotel space to accommodate those coming for tournaments, he said.
