Ahern's great play in net gets no support

Colin Ahern played a great game in net for the TW seniors holding the Minnesota seniors to 2 goals on 41 shots.

Unfortunately Max Techel's goal 50 seconds into the game was all TW could muster as the Minnesota seniors went on to post a 3-1 win Friday night in pool play at the Minnesota NIT.

Techel was able to slap a puck into the Minnesota net as two Minnesota skaters looked for the puck between their skates.

Ahern was under siege most of the game but TW led 1-0 after the first period.

TW had a 5 minute major power play early on but couldn't capitalize on the chance. Minnesota finally scored on their 23rd shot of the game when Andrew Hicks shot seemed to flutter past the TW goalie to tie the game with just under 6 minutes left in the second period.

Minnesota was in the TW zone a lot in the second period but a 1-1 tie was all the score thru two periods.

Minnesota scored what proved to be the game winner with under 8 minutes to go Aaron Myers scored on a wrist shot that just got in the corner of the net for a 2-1 lead.

TW did have a chance to tie with 2 minutes left when they got a power play but were not able to tie and Matthew Koethe knocked home an empty net goal to keep the TW seniors winless in pool play.

Ahern ended with 38 saves in the game. The final day of pool play Saturday sees TW seniors playing undefeated North Dakota at 4:45 pm.
