Traveling to a foreign country is something that appears on many bucket lists. Some get the thrill of crossing that experience off the list, and others — for various reasons — never get to see that wish fulfilled.
Nine members of the Viroqua High School girls hockey team will put their pens and pencils to work and scribbling on those lists — if they have them — this summer when they take their traveling necessities along with skates, sticks and pucks to the Czech Republic.
The group, which is led by Viroqua youth hockey coach Tomas Barendregt and also includes a couple of players from outside the area, will stay in Prague and play hockey games for two weeks in June while trying to enjoy as much of the culture as possible.
Seniors Naomi Schroeder, Emma Hughes, Emma Kolden, Alice Blake and Ivy Shonka will make the trip along with juniors Maia Barendregt and Perla Grenier. Syli Shonka, who is an eighth-grader, and Laura Schneider, who graduated from Viroqua last year, are also part of the group.
