Viroqua netminder stops 38 shots in victory

Netminder Ivy Shonka not only has a great name, but played a great game in net Friday, stopping 38 shots in 56 minutes of play and then shut down the Boston Shamrocks in the shootout, leading the Wisconsin Selects U19 team to a 2-1 win Friday in Marlborough, MA in USA Hockey Nationals action.

It took until the third period, but the Selects took the lead with a goal by Margaret Wohlleber midway through the period. Three minutes later, Kelly Golini tied the game for the Shamrocks, sending the game to OT.

The extra period was scoreless and the shootout would ensue.

Zoe Sternberg and Morgan Treml each scored for the Selects, giving them the victory. Shonka stopped all four shots she saw in the shootout.
