Blackcats U16s looking to better last year's effort

Last year's U14 runner up finish not enough

All but one player is back from last year’s U14 National runner-up team.  The team is a before and after HS season team made up of girls from primarily three High School programs: St. Croix Valley Fusion, Hudson Raiders, and Western WI Stars. All but one of the team is made up of 2002 birth year girls. 

The 'Cats have a record of 13-5-2, and have outscored their foes by an average of two goals per game.  Netminders Sydney Seeley and Caitlyn Erickson have combined for five shutouts on the season.  The game schedule included teams from WI, IL and a Sr Women’s team from MN that is also headed to Nationals.

WI State tournament

3-1 Win over WI Selects U16, with a 33-10 shot edge. Goals by Jade Williams, Nikki Olund, and Jaden Woiwode.  Assists by Abbie DeLong and Hailey Schumacher. 

12-0 Win over Northern Storm.  Huge shot margin: 47-14.  Points by 11 out of 14 skaters. 

Every player had a point over the weekend.  Sydney Seeley was 10 for 10 on saves and Caitlyn Erickson had 13 out of 14 saves on the weekend. 

District Playoffs

The team played well over the weekend, however struggled to find the back of the net. 

Lost 3-0 to Highland Park Falcons, with the Falcons holding a 20-18 shot edge. Seeley with 11 saves, and Erickson with six.  

Lost 4-1 to Highland Park Falcons, even though 'Cats held an almost 3-1 shot edge (30-11). Seeley  stopped five shots, while Erickson had four saves. The only goal was Taylor Wandschneider from Quinn Winkoski on the power play. 

Team Fun facts/ Quotes from girls about nationals

Amber DeLong, Abbie DeLong and Lilly Accola all share the same birthday all born within an hour of each other and have played hockey together for eight years. 

The team has given Coach Mike DeLong the nick name "Spiky Mikey' because of his fabulous hair cut.

Sydney Seeley – We are all grateful to have a second chance at nationals and I know we will all go out there and play our hardest to show everyone what a great talent we have on this team.

Abbie DeLong – I am really excited to get to play at Nationals again with a really fun team.

Nikki Olund – This team has been through so much together the past few years and along the way has been made into a family.
