WIAMA, April 8th, 2018 – The Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation is a not-for-profit 501 c (3) dedicated to changing the future of cancer by funding advanced, innovative research that treats the cancer while sparing the patient.

Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer is the nationwide signature fundraiser for the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation.  In partnership with U.S. Figure Skating, with the support of the NHL, affiliated cancer centers and hundreds of clubs and ice facilities nationwide we are Turning Cancer Upside Down™!  Through our online peer-to-peer fundraising platform, participants are signing up because they CARE and are raising funds by simply ASKing their network of friends and family, coworkers, businesses, etc. to donate toward the cause.

Below is specific information on the Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer fundraiser in The Wisconsin Ice Arena Management Association, is a growing volunteer group of ice arena personnel dedicated to improve procedures and operations in existing and new facilities. We continue to seek new ways to get the message out and live up to our motto of …  Sharing Ideas Today for Better Rinks Tomorrow.

Partnering with the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation is WIAMA’s next venture as we hope to be the intermediate between Wisconsin ice rinks and the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation.  WIAMA is asking rinks in WI to participate in the Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer April 8th, 2018 in the following ways:

  • Register as a Host rink TEAM at www.mysk8.org (for more help on how to register-please contact us).
  • Promote the fundraising efforts through your networks and ask skaters, members, organizations and guests within your facility to register on your TEAM and raise money for cancer research (20% of net proceeds will be donated to local designated charities).
  • Dedicate 2 hours of ice time for the on-ice celebration on April 8th where fundraisers and their families will gather with the public and guests to skate our 8-mile challenge.  Participants will dedicate each 8 laps in honor of someone they know affected by cancer.

The on-ice celebration can also include other ways to raise as a community including but not limited to: Silent Auctions, bake sales, donation table, etc.

Please visit the WIAMA Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer dropbox link for more information, ideas and materials.

For those who cannot attend, digital support is available through www.mysk8.org
