Dahl among eight Wisconsin players chosen in 2011 USHL Entry Draft

Now you can add USHL draftee, as the Eau Claire Memorial star forward was selected as the third pick in the second round by the Youngstown Phantoms, the same Ohio squad that brother Jefferson Dahl performed for two years ago before moving to the University of Wisconsin.

The younger Dahl scored 61 points (18g-43a) for ECM in 29 games spanning the regular season and tournament play. He was also +44 in those games for an Old Abe team that lost in the state semifinals to eventual champion Wausau West. 

Dahl finished his ECM career as the fifth all-time scorer with 148 points (52g-96a). He ranks second for all-time assists in his four year stint as an Old Abe.

The first Wisconsin player chosen was forward Danny Sherer of Nashotah, WI, who was picked 12th in the first round by the Indiana Ice. The 6'0, 190# forward was the fourth-leading scorer for the Amarillo Bulls of the NAHL. He tallied 18 goals and 20 assists for 38 points in 48 games. 

Defenseman Michael Kapla--an ECM teammate of Dahl's--was picked in the sixth round by Sioux City. The Old Abe sophomore notched 43 points last year (5g-38a) and was a major reason the team had success the last two years. The 6'0, 175# blueliner was a solid presence on defense.

Marquette Electricians defenseman Matthew Purmal (Merrill, WI) was picked by Lincoln in the tenth round. He tallied 17 points (4g-13a) in 59 games for the AAA team.

Austin Vieth of Notre Dame was selected by Chicago Steel in the 16th round. The 5'11, 171 pound junior forward scored 49 points (26g-23a) in 26 games for the Tritons last season.

Next up was Middleton's Todd Koritzinsky, was was chosen by Youngstown in the 17th round. The speedy senior forward (5'8, 162#) notched 61 points (28g-33a) in 26 games for the Cardinals, leading them to the state final game in March.

Two picks later, Waterloo picked Kyle Schmidt of the Junior Admirals U18 squad. The Menomonee Falls native--a 5'10, 174# junior--tallied 23 points (11g-12a) in 29 games for the Junior Ads last season.

Hudson native Travis Wood was tabbed in the 18th round by Sioux City. The 5'10, 170# freshman defenseman scored 17 points (4g-13a) and was the only ninth-grader on the Hill Murray roster. 

2011 USHL Futures Draft


On April 19th, Notre Dame Academy's Jason Reynolds was chosen 63rd overall (5th round, third pick) by the Youngstown Phantoms. The 5'10 sophomore forward notched 44 points (22g-22a) for the Tritons.
