Montana Cruz leads Cap City with 3 points

Rock County Fury made the familiar trip to Sun Prairie to play the Cap City Cougars. The major difference for this trip was the fact the Fury had clinched their first Badger Conference title last week. Once the action on the ice started, you would have thought the title was still up for grabs.

Rock County grabbed the early lead on a goal by Zoie Steig at 3:28 of the first period with Haley Knauf assisting on the play. This was the only goal of the first period, which saw the Cougars' Taylor Thornton finish the period with 2 saves and the Fury's McKaylie Buescher had 7 saves.

The second period scoreboard was owned by the Cap City Cougars.  Thirteen seconds into the period, Zephryn Jager tied the game with an assist from Montana Cruz. Ellie Olson put the Cougars on top at 2:35 and Mack Rosin assisted on the goal. The Cougars finally capitalized on their third power play opportunity at 12:28 of the second period, when Brynna Banuelos and Carson Sheridan assisted on Montana Cruz's goal. The Fury went on the power play with 1:07 remaining in the period. However, it was a short-handed goal by Margo Thousand with Zephryn Jager and Carson Sheridan assisting at 16:43 of the period. Thorton recorded 2 saves in the period, while Buescher had 4 saves. Cap City led 4-1 at the end of two.

Haley Knauf scored at 7:08 of the third with Abby Humphrey being credited with an assist. Knauf picked up her second goal and cut Cap City's lead to one with 8:11 remaining in regulation. Cruz iced the game with a power play goal at 15:50 of the third with Margo Thousand assisting. Rock County's Buescher finished the game with a total of 17 saves, while the Cougars' Thorton had a total of 8 saves.
