Wings beat host Sun Prairie 3-1 for the championship

Waukesha jumped out to an early lead and held on for a 3-1 victory over Sun Prairie Saturday in the 2018 Ground Hog tournament at the Sun Prairie Ice Arena.

Garrett Wilderman scored just 14 seconds in to give the Wings a very early lead. The Cardinals tied it with 1:22 left in the first on Benett Halbleib's score. 

Not to be outdone, Joziah Dietrich gave the Wings a 2-1 lead with just 36 ticks left on the clock in the opening frame.

Wilderman scored again late in the second on a power play to account for the final score.

Garrett Larsen stopped 32 shots for Waukesha to earn the win, but Sun Prairie's Owen Leatherberry also played very well, making 34 saves in the contest.

3rd place game

Waunakee defeated Oregon 4-3 for the third place game.

consolation championship

Madison Memorial edged KMMO 2-1 in the 5th place game.

Cole Warren scored in the first to give KMMO an early 1-0 lead. Jackson Welsh tied the game for Memorial in the middle of the second.

Brandon Schaeffer got the game-winner just 36 seconds into the final period of the Spartans.

Wes Turner stopped 18 shots for Memorial, while Joseph Greilich had 30 saves for KMMO.

7th place game

Monona Grove beat DeForest in overtime, 6-5, to claim the 7th pace game.
