Senior will move on to UW-Stevens Point next year

Mary Kremer started skating at age 3, dreaming of one day becoming a figure skater.

“Then my brother started playing hockey, and I saw him out there playing,” she said. “It was love at first sight.”

As the 2018 Winter Olympics draw near, it won’t be the flips and jumps that interest her most, though she has crossed paths with a woman who will be skating at the games in Pyeongchang:  Team USA hockey goalie Alex Rigsby. And although Kremer attends Hamilton High School, she’s wearing the same jersey Rigsby did, playing for the Arrowhead co-op girls squad.

In her fourth year with the program, Kremer’s hockey career isn’t ending anytime soon. She’ll be competing with the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point next year.

“She's definitely a playmaker,” Arrowhead coach Andy Smith said. “You can see that she doesn't just score or do one thing very well. Mary is pretty consistent with having pretty even stats, being able to set up other players and scoring herself. She’s also capable of playing both ends of the ice. With younger players, it's tough if they're forwards, they really just care about scoring goals. She not only needs to generate offense, but she needs to shut down other teams’ best players as well.”
