FOND DU LAC – As Carter Flegner skated up the left boards, his options were pretty limited.
He had skated the puck into the zone so he was ahead of his other teammates and the speed he was carrying –with a defender basically rubbing shoulders with him – was quickly eliminating any real shooting angle at the net. So with a quick flick of his stick, he sent the puck in the direction of the goal to see what would happen.
And with that, Waupun led 1-0 just 16 seconds into the game.
Flegner was one of six different players to score a goal for the Warriors and Caleb Sauer made the offense stand up with a 23-save shutout in net as Waupun beat Fond du Lac, 6-0, at the Blue Line Ice Center on Tuesday night to earn its third straight Cowan Cup victory.
