Blomquist earns hat trick in Wildcats victory

Laforge stops 44 shot for Kenosha

The University School boys’ hockey team defeated Kenosha 11-0 in a Classic Eight Conference game on Friday, January 5th at the IcePlex in Kenosha.

The Wildcats outshot their hosts 55-7 in the lopsided contest.  They scored three first period goals, five in the middle period and concluded with three more in the final frame.

Christian Blomquist led the USM goal scoring parade with three goals. Three USM players scored twice, Ethan Mann, Reid Woods, and Andrew Malick.  Ethan Ford and Blake Carey each contributed a goal to USM’s total.  Patrick Kelly made only 7 saves while earning the shutout in net for USM.  Joseph Laforge endured the USM storm between the pipes for the home team.  He made 44 saves for the Thunder.

Mann opened the scoring for the Wildcats just 6:46 into the game.  He took a pass from Noah Eghballi and then buried a shot to get the USM contingent rolling.

Blomquist tallied his first goal at 12:50 of the first period.  Mann had an assist on the play.

USM scored the game’s third goal just over two minutes later.  This time it Woods who scored.  Eghballi and Ford had assists for the Wildcats at 14:57.

The Wildcats then quintuplicated their goals in the second period.  Mann scored the first of the five.  Eghballi and Charlie Keough scored at 3:20.

Malek and Robby Newton combined for USM’s next two goals.  Malek had the goals and Newton had the assists one was short-handed at 4:15 and then an even strength goal at 6:11.

Blomquist tallied his second goal at 11:40 of the period.  The assist was given to Malek.

The final USM of the second period came on a power play with just a minute left.  Blomquist earned his hat trick on the play, with assists going to Newton and Ryan Fenton.

USM scored another power play goal at 1:27 of the third.  Ford scored it; Casey Roepke had an assist.

Mann’s goal at 7:18 was also assisted by Roepke.

Carey scored the game’s final goal after passes from Peter Ells to Ryan Kennedy then to Carey in front of the net for a sweet shot at 11:07.

USM is now 10-2 and 3-0 in the Classic Eight Conference.  The Wildcats play Fond du Lac St. Mary’s Springs in a non-conference game at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 6th at USM.
