EAU CLAIRE — The Chi-Hi boys hockey team would have needed to play nearly flawless hockey to go on the road and beat Eau Claire Memorial on Tuesday.

The Cardinals weren't able to do that, and fell to the No. 2-ranked Old Abes 5-1 at Hobbs Ice Arena. Memorial got a hat trick from Hutson Collins, who fired the opening salvo in the first minute of the game.

Only 59 seconds into the contest, Collins zipped down the ice and put a shot into the back of the net to give Memorial an early lead it would never relinquish and set the tone for the rest of the game.

"(The opening goal) got us on our heels quick, and that's not a goal that Jaden (Hoople, the goalie) usually gives up," Chi-Hi coach Scott Parker said. "I think that put our whole team on our heels, and we only generated two shots on net (in the first period)."
