Lose Early, Win Later On Versus NoDak Girls

Saturday Game 1 vs Minnesota All Stars

The Team Wisconsin Girls earned a split in Saturday action with a 10-2 loss to Minnesota, and a 9-2 win over North Dakota.

TW Girls in their first game got down by two goals early, but only trailed by one goal after the first period. Anna Westmark scored to make it 2-1, and getting another one around a Minnesota goal as Katherine Nejedlo scored in front of a huge pileup in front of the net.

So down by one after one period, TW Girls saw  their scoring end for the game, while Minnesota showed some talent in net and at forward. The "golden" girls scored five straight goals in the second to lead 8-2 after the second period, and added two more in the third for a 10-2 win.

While TW Girls held a large shot advantage of 48-35, the difference was Minnesota's skill and speed up front, and timely stops in net for Minnesota.

Game 2 vs North Dakota

TW Girls got off to a very quick start in game 2 and won the game 9-2 versus North Dakota.

Nikki Plunkett got the scoring started with a goal as she skated with the puck along the goal line and jammed home the puck short side. Taylor Rudiger then finished off a 2 on 1 rush for the next goal and added two more on tallies by Hailey Rock and Lauren Roethlisberger for a 4-0 lead.

But North Dakota made things interesting late in the first with two goals in the final 13 seconds of the period for a 4-2 TW Girls lead after one period.

Any momentum North Dakota had carrying over was snuffed out early by Anna Westmark. The Appleton North skater scored two goals less than six minutes apart, and Hailey Rock added her second of the game for a 7-2 lead after two periods.

TW Girls closed out the game with goals from Shauna Bollinger nine seconds into period 3, and Sam O'Brien on a 5 on 3 powerplay.

While there was some concern for tired legs as TW Girls had just over two hours between games they were able to get great scoring, and a great effort from Emily Wigdale who stopped 25 of North Dakota's shots.

TW Girls generated a whopping 46 shots in the win which moves them into the championship game against Minnesota Sunday afternoon.
