Roethlisberger scores a pair in 6-0 shutout

The Team Wisconsin Girls got the 2011 Minnesota National Invitational off to a good start with a 6-0 shutout of the Tri-State Icehawks.

Team Wisconsin held a 1-0 lead after one period on a goal from Ashwaubenon High's Lauren Roethlisberger, who was fed the puck from behind the net and got a quick wrist shot off for the goal. Wisconsin held a 12-0 edge in shots after one period as the majority of play was in the Tri-State zone.

The TW Girls then put the game well out of reach in the second period with a five goal period. Kelly Ahlgren of Hayward scored to make it 2-0 not even two minutes into the second period. The TW Girls kept buzzing the net and kept Tri-State goalie Martha Smith very busy, but finally at 8:45 left in the period finally got on the board with a goal from Rian Lennon to make it 3-0 TW Girls.

The rest of that period was all TW Girls, as they got goals from Emily Lester, Lauren Roethlisberger's second goal, and Anna Westmark.

The third period saw the TW Girls not score any more, but still for the most part control the play. Tri-State goalie Martha Smith faced a whopping 58 shots in the game, while Emily Wigdale stopped 8 total.

The TW Girls play Saturday afternoon against Team Minnesota, then come back with a 4:15 game against North Dakota.
